Come one, come all to the Pokémon Project Voltage! Featuring Hatsune Miku 18 types/songs! This was a huge collaboration between the beloved Pokémon franchise and the first Vocaloid ever, Hatsune Miku, and is abbreviated as PokeMiku. This collaboration event was a big music project for all Pokémon fans, Vocaloid fans, and music lovers. It provided a great opportunity for the talented Hatsune Miku musicians selected for the collaboration to showcase their skills and have their own Pokémon-style, Hatsune Miku illustrations designed for the collaboration.

    Pokémon Franchise

The Pokémon franchise was first created when a man named Satoshi Tajiri had an idea in 1996 decided to create a pair of role-playing games about pocket monsters, where the original names for the games in the beginning were Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green. The name of the franchise we have now is a combination of the two Japanese words for Pocket Monsters, and it is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures.

When the games were created, they of course became a huge hit and were followed by a manga series to accelerate it, trading cards, and then finally the beloved anime and movies, and this was just in Japan! When it was exported to the rest of the world starting in 1998, that fame then became global, although the huge excitement for it did die down in 2002, but that only means it then became a normal part of life and kept growing since. It did however have another craze that started back up in 2016 with Pokémon Go!

    Pokémon Series

All right, now onto the more important info about Pokémon, which is the storyline, but first a quick summary of the concept! Taking place in a world where humans and Pokémon coexist, there is a role called Pokémon Trainers, where when a child comes of age, they receive their first Pokémon to begin traveling with to collect others. Among all the Pokémon they've captured, they are to pick and train a team of six for battles against other trainers, then against professional trainers called gym leaders, and then battling in the leagues.

Now onto a gist of the TV series! A boy named Ask Ketchum has dreams of being a Pokémon master. Waking up late and receiving a Pikachu instead of one of the usual grass, fire, or water types that other trainers normally get, his path to his dream gets off to a rocky start, especially when Pikachu doesn't like him at first. It's fine because eventually, these two will grow to have the strongest friendship ever throughout the series, helping to represent the main focus of the show, which is the coexistence between humans and Pokémon.

The series has adventure and fantasy genres, with a lot of comedy and themes of companionship. Throughout each season, Ash always travels with Pikachu and other trainers or performers, who are also kids. If you're concerned about the idea of children using monsters to fight other monsters, don't worry - some of them compete on stage instead. You can learn more about the series by searching for "Pokémon" on your chosen TV streaming platform and start enjoying it from there.

    Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid or a singing voice synthesizer made into the form of a beautiful singer or Android diva, born or released on August 31st, 2007, and created by Crypton Future Media. She is one of the six Japanese Vocaloids or fellow Piapro, who are all technically music software personified, or brought to life. As the name of the software suggests, it's something anyone can use to make music with their computer by putting in lyrics and melodies, it's like Techno music that is more vocal and verbal, as the voice synthesizers range from singing in Japanese to Chinese, English, and more.

The reason she and the other characters are so famous is that while the software is popularly used to make music, the real meaning of the software helping to make the computer sing is through the voice synthesizers, in which Hatsune Miku is the most popular voice synthesizer that was used. She, along with the other Piapro are virtual singers who grew into popularity even more after being brought to life as holograms on stage, and thanks to merchandising, became more popular across the globe from there.

    Hatsune Miku Musicians

Hatsune Miku and the others also act as a form of self-expression for some songwriters who can make great music but prefer not performing their songs on stage for various reasons, which brings us to the concept of Hatsune Miku musicians. They are also known as producers due to their roles in writing and creating the music for their virtual idols or singers.

A lot of people made a name for themselves thanks to using Hatsune Mikus voice synthesizer, and whole events are created for them to write music for and present at the schedule's venues, using Hatsune Miku's android model to sing them, just like other famous singers and artists.

    Pokémon Project Voltage

In Japanese, it has a different name but in English, the title is changed to Pokémon feat. Hatsune Miku Project VOLTAGE 18 types/songs, consisting of 18 original songs made by the 18 musicians chosen for the collaboration along with illustrations of Hatsune Miku for each of them. There were 18 original songs made by Hatsune Miku musicians, all posted on YouTube at different times, beginning from September 29, 2023, all the way to February 22, 2024.

All the producers were announced in advance before the release of their songs, save for the 18th producer who was revealed with the release of their song. Additional songs were then announced to be added after the 18th. There were 18 songs before, to match the types of Pokémon there were, and the 18 illustrations of Hatsune Miku as a Pokémon trainer with 18 Pokémon type designs were made thanks to 6 artists, then it expanded to 20, likely due to popularity.

The songs included Hatsune Miku, the other "Piapro" characters, or Vocaloid developed by the same company as her, core music and sound effects from the core series Pokémon game, with some producers later on creating remixes and trading songs with each other. According to bulbapedia.net, a reliable source for a lot of Pokémon content, there are currently 21 songs out now with the creators of each one ranging from talented producers, actual singers or bands, and even two songs having been made by the same artist.

    Conclusion

For all of those who love the 2D world and animation brought to life, especially ones like Pokémon and virtual idols like Hatsune Miku, we have been blessed with this collaboration, especially because these collaboration songs were released on YouTube for all of us to find! Now we can play our Pokémon games while either rewatching the entire Pokémon series or while listening to the Pokémon Project Voltage songs featuring Hatsune Miku! Or even her non-Pokémon related songs. We have many options to enjoy.
