Under Deion Sanders' stewardship, Folsom Field — home of Colorado's football team —has become a safe haven of sorts, legions of fans packing into its glimmering concourses to shower the likes of Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and the rest of the Buffaloes with praise and support.

On Thursday night, the colosseum was greeted by an entirely different audience.

Boulder police arrested a man suspected of being involved in multiple hit-and-run collisions before driving his car onto the Folsom Field grass.

The driver, Karl Haglund — a 48-year-old man from Massachusetts — eventually surrendered to police. He was booked into a Boulder County jail with a litany of charges, including three counts of leaving the scene of a crash after damage.

    Folsom Field hit-and-run, explained

At approximately 6:45 p.m. local time, witnesses alerted Boulder police of a man in a blue pickup truck — presumed to be Haglund — who was allegedly involved in two hit-and-run incidents and was seen plowing through trees and signs near Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe Avenue, about 1.5 miles away from the stadium.

Despite witnesses' best efforts, the man continued to drive erratically, nearly hitting a pedestrian before colliding with another car.

CU Boulder police eventually spotted the man barreling towards Folsom Field and attempted to stop him. However, he rammed into the stadium's gates, making his way onto the field until he was eventually apprehended by authorities at the 40-yard line.

Haglund was booked into Boulder County jail on Thursday night and charged with multiple crimes: criminal attempt vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, vehicular eluding, leaving the scene of a crash after damage (three counts), failure to obey a traffic control device, driving without insurance, criminal mischief, obstruction of a peace officer and trespassing.

No one on campus was injured during the incident.

“We appreciate the work of CU Boulder Police and Boulder Police Department for resolving this situation quickly and safely,” Colorado’s athletic department said in a statement .

The Buffs (1-1) take on in-state rivals Colorado State at Canvas Stadium on Saturday. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.
