Georgia football cornerback Daniel Harris was arrested on Thursday night by Athens-Clarke County police, just two days before the Bulldogs play their first SEC matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington.

According to Athens-Clarke County public records, Harris was booked at 10:40 p.m. ET and charged with affixing materials that reduce the visibility of windows/windshield, no proof of insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle without a current license plate of revalidation decal, use of safety belts, and reckless driving.

He was released approximately one hour later on bonds totaling $50.

Harris, a former four-star prospect out of Florida, is in his sophomore season with the Bulldogs and has seen action through both games this year. He's logged 45 defensive snaps primarily at outside corner and has been credited with four total tackles so far.

Kirby Smart Taking Action to Shut Down Arrests

Including Harris, Georgia's football program has now had at least 25 players arrested for speeding, DUI, or reckless driving since the fatal crash that happened on Jan. 2023 and took the lives of former UGA football player Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy.

Head coach Kirby Smart said back in July that the program has tried to take a new approach with hopes of getting a point across to put a stop to these incidents.

"I can't tell you the things that we've done that no one in the country has done," Smart said, via ESPN . "Let's start with defensive driving, requiring certain incoming guys to take that course which, as far as I know, nobody in the country has done. Discipline, we suspended a player [Marcus Rosemy] for speeding and driving last year, which is rare. Nobody's ever done that. That hasn't controlled it and prevented it, so why are we still talking about it? Because we've had guys make poor decisions."

One of the new approaches that Smart and his program have taken has been to fine players in NIL payments by the Classic City Collective.

"The [NIL] collective has fined players -- substantially," Smart said. "We've dismissed players that have been involved, and I'm talking about like routine traffic, repeated, repeated violations. ... I actually think the best key is the pocket because you look at what the NFL has done, their model is defined. And if you asked any of our players what they would rather have, they want their money. When I say substantial -- very substantial -- in terms of the hits that some guys have taken."

Georgia football's bus leaves Athens for Lexington today. Whether or not Harris will be on it has not yet been announced.
