Aaron Judge’s home run drought has reached a career-high.

The captain has gone 16 games without a homer and has failed to hit the ball out of the park in 72 plate appearances. Both of those totals mark the longest stretch without a home run for the slugger in his career.

Judge went 1-4 in the New York Yankees’ 2-1 win against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. He hit his last home run.

Judge leads the American League with 51 home runs this season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone defended the slugger when asked about the home run drought after the Bronx Bombers’ latest game.

“Homers, even for guys like him, they still come in bunches,” Boone said about Judge’s homerless streak. He then went on to praise the captain for his hitting, saying that the lack of power droughts throughout Judge’s career is a testament to how much power he has. “I thought he had good at-bats tonight and he almost got one,” Boone concluded.

Judge has finished the season as the AL’s home run leader twice in his career. He set the AL rookie record with 52 homers in 2017. He also set the franchise record for the most home runs in a single season in 2022 when he hit 62 homers and won the American League MVP award.

Judge has four more homers than Shohei Ohtani for the MLB lead. He has 10 more long balls than Anthony Santander for the most home runs in the AL.

The captain is on pace to hit 55 homers this season.

Judge and the Yankees play their next game on Friday night against the Red Sox.
