Ice Cube on his upcoming album and why it's time for men to 'stand back up'

Ahead of his show in St. Louis, Ice Cube hit up Audacy’s Hot 104.1 to chop it up with Shae Bae about everything from his upcoming 11th studio album, Man Down , the meaning behind the title, and more.

With plans to announce the release date for his new album, “very soon,” Ice Cube revealed the reason for the hold-up. “We're still in the process of finishing contracts and doing all the boring paperwork and stuff. So once we finish that and we got deals on these records, then we can put the release date on it, but it's gonna be very soon,” Ice Cube shared, adding, “and it's called Man Down .”

Sharing the meaning behind the title, Cube said, “Well, I just think men gotta stand up nowadays. You know, we taking hits in all kind of areas and directions. Manhood is being, you know, really called toxic, which I don't subscribe to. I think being a man is great, masculinity is great. And so to me, it's a record just… not beating it over the head, but if you listen to the album, there's sprinkles of why the record is called Man Down , and what we need to do as men to, to stand back up.”
