    OBITUARY: Clayton Joseph Steen Sr.

    Clayton “Joe” Joseph Steen Sr., 81, of Albemarle, went to be with his Lord the evening of Sept. 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

    Joe was a son of the late Clayton and Charlotte Steen and was born July 12, 1943.

    Joe retired from CSX Railroad after many years working as a yard conductor. Joe loved to farm and was known for raising beef cattle. He especially enjoyed riding his John Deere and Farmall Cub tractors.

    Joe is survived by his wife, Sadie T. Steen, of the home, to whom he shared a wonderous 41 years before his passing; a son, Clayton Joseph Steen Jr. and wife Ellen of Ellerbe; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Stotesbury and her husband of Lake Tillery; siblings, Elaine Mizzell of Charleston, South Carolina, and Reese Steen of Mars Hill. Joe also leaves behind his two grandchildren, Cheri Ginder and Amber Harley, and 10 great-grandchildren.

    A graveside service will be held at Richmond Co. Memorial Park Cemetery’s Mausoleum Chapel, 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. The family will receive friends for visitation following the service.

    Memorial donations can be made to Tillery Compassionate Care at 960 N. 1st St, Albemarle, NC 28001.
