Nothin' like those Friday night lights. Today, Texas staple Wade Bowen released the music video for "Friday Night," which features legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman as the public address announcer during the introduction to the song. His part was also included on the version from Bowen's 2024
Flyin' album, and the new video was heavily inspired by the TV series Friday Night Lights , one of my personal favorites that I've rewatched more than a couple times. The video plays out more like a short film than a movie, and follows a former high school football quarterback as he reminisces on life and the glory days playing high school football, and everything that comes with it, in Texas (which is a huge deal down there, in case you didn't know that). https://www.instagram.com/p/C_3HEYRxKzh/ Bowen says it was an honor to have Troy be part of the song and video, which he explained takes him back to his own time playing high school football and all of those special memories: "I’m so honored to not only know Troy, but to also call him a friend. He’s an amazing guy and shares a true passion for music, so having him on this song and in this video is a dream come true for me.
The song ‘Friday Night’ took me right back to playing football in high school and flooded me with so many childhood memories. It takes me back to figuring out life, love, friends, and to a hometown nostalgia that never fades. It’s been fun to relive these memories, especially as my son starts his second year playing high school football. I truly feel like the lyrics relate to so many of us and that the video will help tie the story together, making you remember why you wanna think of home." It really is an awesome, fitting song for this time of year and something I think many of us southerners can relate to, or really anyone who loves football can relate to. You'll also see a special appearance by Robert Gallagher, longtime entertainment director at the legendary Billy Bob's Texas, as well as Wade's own high school football coach, which is a sweet nod to his hometown and that time of his life.
