What to Know About UTSA Ahead of Texas' Week 3 Matchup

    By Jacob Wayne,

Last Saturday, the Texas Longhorns earned the most impressive win of any team this season, dismantling the defending national champions Michigan Wolverines 31-12 on the road. Now, they will attempt not to get caught napping as they host in-state foe UTSA on Saturday.

Jeff Traylor has compiled a 40-15 record as he enters his fifth season as the UTSA head coach, leading the program from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference, becoming one of the nation's top Group of Five teams.

The Roadrunners are coming off an ugly 49-10 loss to Texas State last week, and they will be looking to bounce back. Quarterback Owen McCown, son of former NFL quarterback Luke, had a disappointing showing, finishing with just 105 passing yards before making way for backup Eddie Lee Marburger.

UTSA features two talented wide receivers, Devin McCuin and Willie McCoy, who have both had over 100 yards receiving this season. The Roadrunners also have three running backs - Kevorian Barnes, Robert Henry, and Rocko Griffin - who combined for over 1,700 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns last year.

Texas and UTSA have faced off just once in their school histories, with the Longhorns earning a 41-20 road win over the Roadrunners in September 2022. While Texas is favored by 35 points in this game, it should expect UTSA's best effort in what could be a program-defining win for Traylor's Roadrunners.
