Warriors Star Andrew Wiggins Hit With Devastating Personal News

Mitchell Wiggins, former NBA player and the father of Golden State Warriors star Andrew Wiggins has died. He was 64.

Andrew's sister Angelica posted a tribute to their father on her Instagram story on September 12.

"Rest easy. You'll forever be missed. I love you forever Daddy," she wrote .

The cause of death was not revealed but Mitchell Wiggins had been dealing with a serious medical situation since 2022, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania , which caused Andrew to miss two months of the 2022-23 NBA season.

In March, Andrew also missed four games due to an undisclosed family emergency.

“I had to take care of what I had to take care of, be present for that and then when I think it’s an appropriate time to come back, that’s what I felt like,” Wiggins said via ESPN on March 5.

He was also forced to cancel his business trip to China this offseason to be with his ailing father.

Andrew's performance coincidentally dipped since his father dealt with a serious medical situation.

After a banner year in 2022 when he earned his first All-Star berth and played a key role in the Warriors' championship run, Wiggins was a shell of himself over the past two seasons.

Last season, he was in and out of the Warriors starting lineup as he averaged a career-low 13.2 points per game.

Andrew's father was the 23rd overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft and played for six seasons in the league. He had career averages of 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists across 389 NBA games.

After his NBA playing career, he played overseas which included stops in Greece, France and the Philippines.
