White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre got into it with James Rosen of Newsmax during Friday’s briefing.

Jean-Pierre fielded a question from another reporter about the drama swirling around Springfield, Ohio. Thanks to a rumor spread by a handful of far-right social media accounts, former President Donald Trump, and his running mate JD Vance, some on the right believe Haitian migrants are abducting pets and eating them in the Buckeye State. Incredibly, Trump offered up the rumor during Tuesday’s debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

“In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs,” he said. “The people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country. And it’s a shame.”

Schools in the city closed on Thursday and Friday after town officials received bomb threats via emails that “used hateful language towards immigrants and Haitians in [the] community.”

“Political leaders should not be attacking vulnerable communities,” Jean-Pierre said. “That’s not who we should be. And if they’re gonna fall for conspiracy theories online, maybe they shouldn’t be our leaders.”

She went on to call the rhetoric “dangerous” and said, “It puts people’s lives at risk.”

As Jean-Pierre was about to call on another reporter, Rosen but in:

ROSEN: Are there any invulnerable communities?

    JEAN-PIERRE: It’s not funny.

    [CROSSTALK]

JEAN-PIERRE: Wait a minute, hold on.

    ROSEN: You’re making–

JEAN-PIERRE: Hold on, wait! Hold on. It’s not funny.

    ROSEN: I–

JEAN-PIERRE: Wait, no! It is not–

    ROSEN: [UNINTELLIGBLE]

JEAN-PIERRE: I’m answering! Let me answer.

    [CROSSTALK]

JEAN-PIERRE: Not everybody wants to hear the sound of your voice, Sir. Give me a second and I will tell you my answer. It’s not funny.

With that, the press secretary called on another reporter.
