Porter, N.Y. (WBEN) - A New York State Trooper underwent surgery Friday at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after state police say he was struck by a car that didn't yield the right of way to him Friday afternoon in the Town of Porter.

It was around 1:30 p.m. ET when troopers say a car driven by 69-year-old Anastassia Radell got off the parkway onto Route 93. Troopers say Radell failed to yield the right of way, and was struck by the state police motorcycle on State Route 93.

The trooper has been identified as Sergeant Station Commander Salvatore Mattina, a 10-year veteran with New York State Police. Mattina suffered very serious injuries including multiple fractures, internal bleeding, and organ damage.

Radell was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with minor injuries.

Trooper James O'Callaghan tells WBEN, Mattina was doing a dry run for a motorcycle charity event at the time of the crash.

State Police say there is no indication that alcohol was involved in the crash.
