BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (TCN) -- Police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after finding two men with apparent gunshot wounds at a senior living facility last week.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, on Thursday, Sept. 5, North Precinct officers responded to a report of two people down at the Freedom Manor Apartments. Police found 66-year-old Roosevelt Walker and 68-year-old Larry Collins deceased at the scene.

Further investigation revealed a friend of the victims who has a key went into the home, found Walker and Collins unresponsive, and called 911.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Jefferson County medical examiner informed police that Collins allegedly killed Walker before taking his own life.

According to AL.com, Walker, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and Collins had been best friends for more than three decades. Walker and Collins reportedly lived at Freedom Manor, a facility run by the Birmingham Housing Authorities for people 62 and older. Police found them deceased in one of the victims’ apartments at the facility.

Walker’s stepdaughter told AL.com, "You never saw one without the other and while it hurts, we know they left here doing what they’ve always done and that’s being with each other."
