UNION TWP. (WWJ) — A Detroit man is under investigation after he allegedly hit and killed a road worker in a construction zone near Mt. Pleasant Friday morning.

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 along northbound US-127 near River Road, not far from the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport.

The 66-year-old man allegedly drove a 2025 Ford Bronco into a construction work area from outside of the designated traffic flow lane and entered the closed area, where the workers were repairing the highway, according to the sheriff’s office.

That’s where he allegedly hit and killed a 47-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant.

Authorities are still investigating why and how the driver entered the barricaded area of the construction zone.

Police have not released the name of the driver, who was not injured in the crash. They have not said what charges he may face. It was not immediately clear if he remained in custody Friday evening.
