Cinnamon Sugar Apple Fries with Bourbon Whipped Cream Dipping Sauce

This is such a fun treat. Apple fries with a crispy outer shell, served with some bourbon whipped cream (or vanilla whipped cream). Here's what you'll need to make 4 servings:

    Ingredients:

    • Vegetable oil, for frying
    • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled
    • 1/2 cup cornstarch
    • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 2/3 cup heavy cream, very cold
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 1 Tbl powdered sugar
    • 2 teaspoon honey bourbon, optional

Pour about 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil into a large, wide pot and heat over medium until the oil reaches 300°F on a deep-fry thermometer. Meanwhile, cut the apples into 1/2-inch-wide sticks, resembling fries.

Working in two batches, coat the apple sticks in cornstarch, shaking off any excess. Fry the apples in the hot oil for about 2 minutes, until they are softened but still pale. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them in a single layer on a rack set over a rimmed baking sheet to cool. Allow the oil to return to 300°F between batches.

In a shallow bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of sugar and the cinnamon; set aside. In a separate medium bowl, use a mixer to beat the heavy cream, vanilla, and the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar until medium peaks form.

Increase the oil temperature to 375°F. Working in about three batches, fry the apple sticks again until they are crisp and lightly browned, about 1 1/2 minutes. Remove them from the oil and briefly drain on paper towels before tossing them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated. Serve the apple fries warm with the whipped cream for dipping and enjoy!

    For Bourbon Whipped Cream:

Combine cold, heavy cream, vanilla, powdered sugar, and bourbon in a bowl. Beat on medium speed until stiff peaks form. Transfer into small dipping bowls and serve along with apple fries.

    *Note:

Only fry up what will be eaten within 1-2 hours. As the fries sit, they start to become soggy.
