Caitlin Clark Hit with Technical Foul for Outburst During Aces vs. Fever

The Indiana Fever is taking on the Las Vegas Aces with the playoffs right around the corner. Although both teams have a spot in the postseason locked up, they each have plenty to play for.

Heading into Friday's contest, the Fever are ranked sixth overall while the Aces are fourth. Both organizations still have a chance to climb the playoff standings with the regular season nearing an end.

With tensions high, superstar point guard, Caitlin Clark got slapped with a technical foul midway through the first quarter. While defending the rim, the Fever star recorded her second foul of the game. She displayed frustration immediately after the call was made.

However, the referees seemingly didn't like Clark's reaction. They called a technical foul on her despite the fact the Fever star wasn't yelling directly at the referees. She had her back turned to them while yelling "Oh my God!" Between the two fouls and the technical she received, Clark ended the first quarter with three total fouls.

Head coach Christie Sides pulled Clark out of the game. She did not return to action for the remainder of the first quarter. If Clark receives a second technical foul in the Aces-Fever game, then she would be given a one game suspension.

Many on social media believe the technical foul call was unnecessary. Especially considering she wasn't in anybody's face while displaying her frustration.

The Fever star entered Friday night's contest needing just five assists to break the all-time WNBA record for most assists in a single season. With two games remaining on the schedule not including Friday's matchup against the Aces, Clark has a strong chance of surpassing Alyssa Thomas' record of 316 assists in a single season.

Clark is having a remarkable rookie campaign, as many believe she's worthy of the WNBA's Rookie of the Year award. Her stats speak for themselves, as she's averaged 19.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game this season while shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from the three-point line.

Heading into the Aces-Fever game, Clark is leading all rookies in points (708), assists (312), and steals (48). While being on the verge of breaking the WNBA's all-time assist record in a single season, Clark is also closing in on the all-time rookie record for points in a single season as well. The record is currently held by Seimone Augustus who scored 744 points as a rookie in 2006.
