Caitlin Clark Sends Deafening Message to Entire WNBA With 1 Wild Play During Record-Setting Game: Watch

Caitlin Clark now holds the WNBA's all-time single-season assists record, which she set as a rookie under a global spotlight and immense pressure -- and that might not even be the most impressive thing the Indiana Fever star accomplished tonight .

Yes, it is true that Clark flew past the assist mark during her team's matchup with the Las Vegas Aces on the evening of Friday, September 13. The point guard and lock for Rookie of the Year accomplished the feat during the second quarter, surpassing the previous record of 316 assists set by Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun just last year.

"ANOTHER RECORD FOR CAITLIN CLARK 🔥," The Athletic's official X account captioned a video it shared of the play. "She breaks Alyssa Thomas' WNBA record for most assists in a season with [317-plus]."

However, and perhaps in a style even more uniquely her own, Clark did something later in the game that one could argue was just as bonkers as setting the all-time assists record as a rookie -- and maybe almost just as impressive.

Clark began the contest against Las Vegas by missing her first 6 shot attempts and going 1-of-8 from the field. Entirely unfazed by the mini shooting slump, Clark let a shot fly in the middle of the third quarter.

On that particular attempt, Clark was closer to the Fever's half-court logo than to her own 3-point line. Her aim was true, and Clark buried her first triple of the night.

Clark's talent has never been in question, though some opponents tried hard to test her tenacity and mental toughness upon entering the league.

But the mindset she showed by taking that shot, let alone making it, during a game of considerable consequence against the defending WNBA champions is the kind of stuff NBA legends like Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors are known for -- and why Clark so often finds herself in comparison to such players.

Later in the game, Clark pulled out her best Michael Jordan impression after drilling a step-back 3-pointer.

Clark drove hard off of the dribble, then abruptly changed pace and direction with a behind-the-back move and drilled a 3-point try in the face of an Aces defender. She turned around with her hands out to her side, almost as if shrugging, and stuck out her tongue in celebration -- clearly in the zone and enjoying every bit of the moment.

Indiana ended up losing a close contest at home to Las Vegas by a score of 78-74. Clark finished the night with 18 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds .

The Fever are now 19-19 and sitting in the No. 6 spot in the eight-team WNBA playoff race with two regular-season games yet to play
