Drew Brees gives opinion on Bo Nix following first career start

From the moment he was connected to the Denver Broncos , even before the 2024 NFL Draft, Bo Nix was drawing comparisons to Drew Brees. Those comparisons heated up when the Broncos, coached by Sean Payton, drafted him in the first round.

Since then, many fans have wanted to hear what the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback thinks of the Broncos' new quarterback. In an interview with DJ Siddiqi of RG.org Brees opened up about Nix and had plenty of positive and encouraging words for the rookie passer.

"I've been really impressed with him. A few things that stick out to me – first off, the guy had 60 starts in college, 60 high-level starts at Auburn and Oregon. That's significant. That is significant in a young quarterback's growth and development."

Brees immediately went to the record number of starts that Nix had as a college quarterback, an NCAA record, which was considered one of his biggest strengths entering the draft.

Though Nix completed 26 passes in his NFL debut, he threw for only 138 yards and completed two passes to the wrong team in a 26-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Still, Brees seems to be high on his former head coach's new QB.

"He steps into a situation where it's a new offense and it's the NFL. Developing chemistry with your team, that kind of thing. You're used to waking up, being the guy. You're used to a situation where you've got a routine and you know how to prepare and you've seen all these different defensive looks. You've seen all these different defensive pressures, right? There's just a different level of knowledge and experience that comes with that many starts and I think it just accelerates their ability to be able to step in and be a starter. I feel like that's part of the formula."

Nix will look to bounce back in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Part of a successful bounce-back performance will include him having more than 3.3 yards per pass attempt .

It could take some time, but Brees seems to see the same things that Payton saw when he eagerly drafted Nix. The Broncos are in good hands for a long time if these men who built one of the best teams in the NFL in New Orleans together are correct.
