Mikel Arteta Reveals Positive Update Concerning Arsenal’s Injury Woes
4 hours ago
Mikel Arteta has spoken ahead of Arsenal’s North London derby. The Spaniard addressed the challenges of injuries that have plagued the players. It initially started with their new signing Mikel Merino, who broke his arm during training.
However, it didn’t stop there as during the International break, a couple of Arsenal players were forced off their games for their respective countries. Martin Odegaard and Ricardo Calafiori were the two major examples. So far tests have been done to check the duration it’ll take the players to become fit. Mikel Arteta in his latest press conference has given positive news over the injuries, especially on Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard.
Mikel Arteta’s Positive News
The Spaniard has shed light concerning the state of fitness concerning Arsenal’s captain. The Arsenal coach has given an encouraging sign of the player’s condition. Before the assessment, the look of the injury seemed terrifying for Odegaard however with the way things are about to pan out the Norwegian might not be out for long.
Mikel Arteta said: “We need some more tests. Let’s see what happens in the next day or so. [It will be Friday] afternoon probably. Let’s see the extent of the injury and how quickly we can get him back. Martin wants to be here every day but we have to wait and see. I leave that to the doctor. He’s willing and he wants to be present in every game.”
He finally added: “We need to make sure we know first how good he is or not. Players with 48 hours are always available. Let’s see what happens.”
London Derby Ahead
Arsenal are set to be without some key players ahead of their tough fixture against Tottenham Hotspur. Mikel Arteta will be facing some serious dilemma over his Midfield option as 2 key starters in the middle for Arsenal will be unavailable: Martin Odegaard who is currently recovering and Declan Rice who is serving a suspension. In the position of Rice, Mikel Arteta could introduce the likes of Jorginho, however, the real headache will be who can replace Odegaard.
Mikel Merino could have been an option, however, he is also injured. Arteta will have the option of either picking Havertz or using Trossard in the free role. The good side of things is that Gabriel Jesus is back for the Gunners, allowing for more options.
Ange Postecoglou’s on his Players’ Fitness
Ahead of the London Derby Ange Postecoglou has revealed the progress of his players’ fitness issues. The Spurs Coach talked about Micky Van De Ven, Dominic Solanke, and Bissouma. The Australian gave a positive update about all of them. He said: “Micky’s good, he’s trained all the way through the international break and it was good for him to stay with us to build him back up so he’s ready to go,”
He continued with Solanke, saying: “Dom’s improved as well and trained the back half of this week. We still have two days to go with those guys so hopefully they get through training OK and are available.”
Finally, on Bissouma, Postecoglou said: “He’s got a bit of an issue, but we’ll have a look at him over the next couple of days and see how it settles.”.
