    Elk River High School to induct seven members into ERHS Hall of Fame

    The Elk River High School Hall of Fame will be receiving seven new members this year.

    The ERHS Hall of Fame Class of 2024 has four male and three female inductees. Each will be inducted on Friday, Sept. 20. The inductees will be announced at halftime at the homecoming game, and the induction program will be held at 9 p.m. at the Furniture and Things Community Event Center.

    Dwight Baker (Class of 2009)

    Baker was a four-time Elk River Diver of the Year (2006-09). He was a three-time All-NWSC selection, a two-time all state team and finished first in the 1-meter dive at the 2009 Class 2A state tournament. After graduating from ERHS, Baker was a three-time All-American diver at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, and graduated with a degree in physics. In 2020, he coached a diver from Staley High School in Kansas City, Missouri, to a Missouri state title.

    Mark Christensen (Class of 1998)

    Christensen was a six-time letter winner in golf and a three-time letter winner in hockey for the Elks. He was a six-time all-conference golfer and a four-time all-MSHSL golfer. In 1997, he won the MSHSL state championship and finished in the top five at the state tournament four times. Christensen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a B.A. in psychology. He was a two-time all-American golfer for the Blugolds.

    Denise Green

    Green was the coach of the Elk River boys swimming and diving team for 40 years from 1984 until this year, as she has retired from coaching. She finished her career with a record of 255 wins, 139 losses and seven ties. She led the Elks to eight conference titles, four section championships and four state tournament appearances. Green coached four all-American athletes. She served as the Elks girls varsity swim coach during the 1985-86 season and served as the Elk River trap team advisor from 2009 to 2018 and was an MSHSL swimming official for 30 years. Green was an English teacher at ERHS from 1984 to 2020 and taught AP English Language and Composition for 15 years and produced several students who earned local, state and national awards.

    Jake Jaremko (Class of 2015)

    Jaremko won the Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award in 2015. That same year, he won the United States High School Hockey Player of the Year. Jaremko is Elk River boys hockey’s all-time leading scorer (70 goals, 124 assists for 194 points). During the 2017-18 season, he was named the WCHA Rookie of the Year while playing for the Minnesota State University-Mankato Mavericks. Jaremko played for the Mavericks when they made the 2021 NCAA DI Men’s Frozen Four. In 2022, he won the Kelly Cup, the Eastern Coast Hockey League title, with the Florida Everblades. He graduated from Minnesota State University-Mankato in 2021 with a degree in business management. He and his brother Ben Jaremko own and operate Two Brothers Hockey, a hockey training center in Elk River located next to Furniture and Things Community Event Center.

    Ryan Ness (Class of 2012)

    Ness earned 11 varsity letters during his career at ERHS (5 soccer, 2 basketball and 4 tennis). He scored 29 goals and assisted on 31 others for the Elks boys soccer team. Ness was a 2-time all-conference selection and a 2-time all-MSHSL soccer first team. He was a two-year captain on the boys tennis team and won the Class 2A state championship in 2012. Ness won 123 matches for the Elks tennis team. After graduating from ERHS, he was a four-year starter for the Bethel University men’s soccer team and has a doctorate in physical therapy.

    Erin Olson (Class of 2005)

    Olson attended ERHS during her junior and senior years, and she made both count. She won eight varsity letters (two soccer, two hockey, two softball and two track and field) and was Elk River’s 2005 Athena Award winner. In 2004, she helped the Elks girls hockey team win the program’s first, and to this date, only state championship. She scored two goals in the 2004 state championship game and was named to the MSHSL Class 2A all-tournament team. In 2005, she was named to the all-conference softball team and finished sixth in shot put at the state track and field tournament. In 2008, Olson won the NCAA DI Women’s Frozen Four with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. She played 129 games for the Bulldogs. She has a B.S. in applied science from UMD.

    Abby Scheid (Class of 2016)

    Scheid earned multiple letters in volleyball, basketball and track. She ranks first in Elks girls basketball history with 1,992 points. In 2016, she won multiple awards and honors, including Elk River’s Athena Award, an honorable mention for the Gatorade Player of the Year and was named to the Minnesota Star Tribune’s 2016 all-metro basketball team. Scheid was one of five finalists for the 2016 Minnesota Miss Basketball award. She played four years of basketball at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and was on the 2020 first team all-Big Ten. She scored 1,146 points for the Wildcats and was second in the nation in 3-point percentage (47.7). From 2020 to 2024, Scheid was the Director of Basketball Operations for the Loyola University-Chicago women’s basketball team.
