Burton Cummings, the longtime lead singer and keyboardist of the famed Canadian rock band The Guess Who, has announced plans to release his first new solo album in more than 15 years. A Few Good Moments will arrive on digital formats and streaming services on September 27. The 17-track collection will then be issued on CD and as a two-LP orange-vinyl set later in 2024.

Cummings recorded A Few Good Moments with his longtime solo band. The album includes a tune titled “Up to the Minute” that he co-wrote with Bryan Adams’ longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance. It also features two tunes co-written with Burton’s touring guitarist, Michael Zweig, and a cover of a song by the Texas blues-rock supergroup Arc Angels, “Shape I’m In.”

“The songs on this album took a while to become the proper collection,” Cummings explained in a statement. “I believe in these songs because they are the result of having lived more years. At this point I have no interest in writing teenage love songs. Aging has changed the writing and that’s natural.”

He added, “I believe in these songs and I hope that the people who have followed my material enjoy them. I want this album to stand up when it’s listened to years from now.”

A Few Good Moments is available for pre-order now. A message announcing the new album, and featuring an audio snippet of the title track, has been posted on Cummings’ social media pages.

Cummings’ 60th Anniversary Tour Plans and Other News

The announcement of Cummings’ new solo album comes just over a week after the happy news that he and Guess Who bandmate Randy Bachman had gained control of the band’s trademark after settling their joint legal dispute with other founding members of the group.

Cummings is now set to launch a new North American solo trek dubbed the 60th Anniversary Hits Tour. The outing kicks off September 13 with a performance at the 2024 Deadwood Jam festival in Deadwood, South Dakota. The tour, which is mapped out through a March 28, 2025, show in Shipshewana, Indiana, features more than 45 total dates in the U.S. and Canada.

The tour will feature Burton performing classic Guess Who songs, tunes from the new album, and material from his other solo releases.

Tickets for Cummings’ concerts can be purchased now via a variety of outlets, including StubHub.

Burton launched his solo career in 1976, and scored his biggest solo hit that same year with the Top-10 single “Stand Tall.” Prior to A Few Good Moments, his most recent solo studio effort was the 2008 album Above the Ground.
