The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV 2LT delivers an exciting new chapter in Chevrolet's move toward electric vehicles. This compact SUV offers the versatility, comfort, and style we've come to expect from Chevy while offering the sustainability and efficiency of an EV. At first glance, it resembles the Chevy Blazer. Still, the Equinox EV outshines its sibling in several key areas, especially when it comes to range.

The model I tested was the 2LT trim, which comes packed with thoughtful features but doesn't quite escape the occasional feeling of entry-level touchpoints in the cabin—something that reminded me of traditional rental cars. Nevertheless, the overall layout is clean, functional, and spacious. It's perfect for a family of four and could even squeeze in a fifth person when needed, although that may compromise comfort on longer drives.

One of the most compelling aspects of the 2024 Equinox EV is its range. With an EPA-estimated 319 miles on a full charge, it easily outpaces competitors like the Kia EV6 , Hyundai Ioniq 5 , and Toyota BZ4X . That driving range is a game-changer for families looking to make the transition to electric vehicles without worrying about frequent charging stops. However, keep in mind that this extra range comes at the expense of the rapid acceleration that many EV drivers have come to love. While it may not give you that head-snapping off-the-line experience, it does provide a smooth and quiet ride that enhances the overall comfort of daily driving.

Speaking of comfort, the interior space is impressive. The cabin is well-insulated, keeping road noise minimal, and the suspension provides a plush, relaxing ride. The modern and intuitive tech suite features a large 17.7-inch infotainment screen that integrates seamlessly with your smartphone via Google Built-in services. But what truly stood out for me was the keyless experience. Entering the vehicle, starting it, and driving off without ever needing to touch a key or push a button felt like a futuristic convenience. Upon arriving at my destination, I simply opened the door and walked away, making the driving experience feel almost effortless.

The Equinox comes equipped with advanced charging technology that ensures drivers can keep moving with minimal downtime. It features standard 11.5 kW Level 2 (AC) charging, adding up to 34 miles of range per hour, making it convenient for overnight home charging or public stations. For those needing a quicker boost, the Equinox EV also supports DC fast charging at up to 150 kW, enabling approximately 77 miles of range in just 10 minutes. This blend of charging options provides flexibility for both daily commuting and long-distance travel, ensuring that the transition to electric driving is as seamless as possible. Chevrolet further backs this with access to over 174,000 public chargers through the MyChevrolet app , giving drivers peace of mind wherever they go.

A standout feature of my 2LT tester was GM's optional Super Cruise™ technology . This hands-free driving assistance system works on compatible roads and adds a layer of ease and safety that's hard to beat. Super Cruise is a testament to how Chevrolet is making advanced technologies more accessible to the everyday driver.

The Equinox EV is competitively priced in the electric SUV segment. The 2LT starts at $43,295, but if you're willing to wait, a base LT model with a starting MSRP of $34,995 will be available later in the year. This pricing makes the Equinox EV one of the more accessible electric SUVs, especially considering its generous range and available tech features like Super Cruise.

Overall, Chevrolet's Equinox EV 2LT hits a sweet spot for families transitioning seamlessly to electric driving. With its blend of practicality, range, and accessible pricing, it's positioned to be a mainstream choice as EVs continue to grow in popularity. While it's not going to deliver Tesla-like acceleration, the Equinox EV offers plenty of value for those prioritizing range, comfort, and cutting-edge technology in a family-friendly package.
