Jeremiah Smith has made a remarkable start to his college football career as a wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes, showcasing his exceptional talents as the top-ranked overall player in the 2024 class.

Smith has made 11 catches for 211 yards and three touchdowns this season. However, being at Ohio State comes with high expectations because players like Marvin Harrison Jr., Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Garrett Wilson were all first-round NFL draft picks in the last three drafts.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit stated on "College GameDay" that he believes Smith could emerge as the top player in the group due to his advanced skills as a young wide receiver.

"I don't want to exaggerate here and say he's going to be the best ever, but he could be the best that they've ever had there," Herbstreit said. "This dude is a grown man. 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, a wide range of abilities. He came in just so polished with his ground running, his knowledge of the offense, the way he plays, the way he works."

Herbstreit also praised Smith's humility, calling it "very rare" for a high-profile wide receiver to be that humble. Herbstreit concluded by saying that he thinks Smith will find himself in the coming weeks, but he warned that's when a player can really get lost.

College football fans will have to wait a week to see Smith play again. Ohio State has a bye week this week before facing Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024.
