The Least Used Amtrak Station In Maryland As Of 2023

ABERDEEN, MD - Amtrak saw over 2 million passengers travel through Maryland in fiscal year 2023, with 67 trains operating daily on a variety of long-distance, state-supported, and Northeast Corridor routes.

According to Amtrak, the busiest stations in the state were Baltimore’s Penn Station, serving 1,081,133 riders, and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, with 710,752 passengers. These stations are key hubs for travelers along the busy Washington-New York corridor.

According to Amtrak, the Capitol Limited, Cardinal, and several other long-distance trains make stops in Maryland, alongside the state-supported Carolinian and Vermonter.

The high-speed Acela and Northeast Regional services also run through the state, connecting Maryland to major cities like Washington, Philadelphia, and New York.

Despite Maryland’s large ridership, some stations see much less traffic. Rockville (RKV) was the least used station in FY 2023, serving just 3,560 passengers, according to Amtrak.

However, Amtrak continues to provide vital connectivity for Rockville and other small stations like Cumberland and Aberdeen, maintaining service across both major hubs and smaller communities in Maryland.

Amtrak relies on cooperation with host railroads to ensure timely operations, though on-time performance remains a challenge.
