‘SNL’ star Colin Jost says buying Staten Island Ferry with Pete Davidson was ‘dumbest’ purchase ever

This investment didn’t float his boat.

“Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost called buying a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry “absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I’ve ever made in my life.”

The Weekend Update anchor expressed his sunken feeling to People magazine at the Tommy Hilfiger show during New York Fashion Week, which was held on board the boondoggle — aka the John F. Kennedy.

Jost and fellow native Staten Islander and SNL cast member Pete Davidson purchased the retired vessel at auction for $280,000 in 2022. The partnership, which includes architect and developer Ron Castellano and comedy club owner Paul Italia, reportedly planned to convert it into a $34 million entertainment venue.

Would Colin Jost and Michael Che replace Lorne Michaels on ‘SNL’?

Added Jost: “The way I justified it is for the amount of money we were putting into buying it, on just a basic square-footage level, is if you found the right place for it to be, you were essentially buying a building on its side that’s 65,000 square feet. So around New York, that is a very good price per square foot.”

Page Six reported exclusively last week that the orange elephant the dynamic SNL duo allegedly bought while “very stoned” may finally have a purpose.

On Sunday, their MV JFK ferryboat hosted Hilfiger’s fashion show, which has long been a flagship event of the week.

Castellano told Travel + Leisure that it might become a boutique cruise ship of sorts, that would sail between New York and Miami.

Jost appears to be conflicted about the boat, which rocked during the Hilfiger extravaganza that ended with a surprise performance by three members of the Wu-Tang Clan — which also hails from Staten Island.

“I never thought it was a money pit, except that it, you know, costs money,” the celeb told Alexa afterward. “I always had faith that it will be something really fun. I thought tonight was really fun!”
