Urban Meyer Names SEC Superstar That Is One Of The Best Athletes In College Football

Legendary college football coach Urban Meyer, now a member of FOX's "Big Noon Kickoff" show, has named one player whom he believes is one of the best athletes in the country.

Some of the nation's top players Meyer could have mentioned include Colorado's Travis Hunter, Oklahoma State's Ollie Gordon, Tennessee's James Pearce or Michigan's Will Campbell.

Instead, Meyer went a different route and named a player who isn't at the top of most NFL scouts' big boards: Jalen Milroe, the quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

"He is without a doubt one of the top-five best athletes in college football," Meyer said.

The Alabama signal-caller is known for his speed and shiftiness. In fact, about a year ago, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart compared him to NFL superstar Lamar Jackson .

Milroe was Alabama's starting quarterback at the beginning of the 2023 college football season. However, Nick Saban benched him in Week 2 against USF. Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner took snaps in place of Milroe during that game, but shortly after, he was given back the keys to the offense.

Since then, the redshirt junior went on to finish sixth in the 2023 Heisman voting and was named a preseason All-SEC player for 2024.

In his college career, he's accumulated 3,566 yards and 34 touchdowns in the air and 932 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Milroe and Alabama will travel to Wisconsin for a rare non-conference tilt on Saturday, September 14.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on FOX.
