No. 1 Georgia vs Kentucky in primetime SEC battle

The Georgia Bulldogs, the top-ranked college football team in the country, travel 401 miles to fight the Kentucky Wildcats in a nationally televised gridiron battle tonight at 7:30 pm EST from Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky. Georgia is 2-0 in the 2024 season with wins over No. 14 Clemson and Tennessee Tech to open the season. Kentucky enters the year at 1-1 with an SEC loss to South Carolina and a shutout win over Southern Miss.

    Georgia vs Kentucky Series History

Georgia enters tonight with a 14-game winning streak against SEC conference-mate the University of Kentucky. UGA leads the all-time series between the schools 63-12-2.

Last season, the teams battled in early October with the UGA Bulldogs routing the UK Wildcats, 51-13. Georgia stormed out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Last season’s score was one touchdown shy of the all-time largest margin of victory for the Bulldogs, a 62-17 win in November 2004. Kentucky’s last victory over Georgia came on the road in 2009 as the Wildcats stunned Georgia 34-27. Trailing 27-20 entering the fourth quarter, Kentucky scored two unanswered touchdowns in under 3 minutes to earn the tight victory. The win improved Kentucky’s mark to 7-4 on the season, while Georgia fell to 6-5.

Even as a road competitor, Georgia has dominated the series against Kentucky with a 31-8 record in Lexington. The University of Kentucky’s last victory at home in Lexington, KY was a few seasons earlier. In November 2006, the Wildcats scored with 1:21 remaining to overcome the Matthew Stafford-led Bulldogs, 24-20. The win improved UK’s record above .500 at 5-4 while providing Georgia their 4th loss of the 2006 campaign.

More Discipline Issues for UGA Football This Year

The University of Georgia’s issues with the law authority of the Peach State continued this past week. ESPN Senior writer Chris Low reported yesterday afternoon that cornerback Daniel Harris was arrested and charged with reckless driving. Harris was clocked at 106 mph in wet conditions which was listed as 41 mph above the legal speed limit according to the incident report from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. The second-year cornerback was driving his 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the evening hours of Thursday, September 13.

A final availability report for the 7:30 pm EST game kickoff will be released closer to game time. SEC Conference policy dictates that any player that is suspended for any reason should be listed as “out”.

Before the start of the 2024 season, starting running back Trevor Ettienne was suspended for the season-opening win against Clemson following an arrest over the summer. The charges of a DUI were dropped by prosecutors and Etienne pleaded no contest to reckless driving among other guilty charges.

Since January 2023, the University of Georgia has had to deal with more than a handful of driving-related violations from its football athletes.
