Indiana Fever issue statement in response to Caitlin Clark playoff concern

Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark committed her sixth technical foul of the season midway through the first quarter during Friday's night 78-74 loss to the Las Vegas Aces .

Clark slammed the stanchion underneath the basket after committing a touch-and-go defensive foul, a reaction forcing the referee to blow for the tech. Normally, WNBA players are subject to a suspension for their seventh technical foul of the season.

With the playoffs rapidly approaching, many suspected Clark might have to miss a crucial game. However, a Fever spokesperson confirmed to the media that technical foul penalties reset for the WNBA Playoffs .

Clark and the Fever only have two regular season games left: one against the Dallas Wings on Sunday before the season finale against the Washington Mystics on Thursday.

Clark would only earn a suspension should she commit a technical foul against the Wings on Sunday, which would subsequently rule her out against the Mystics.

Only one player in the WNBA has earned a suspension from technical fouls this season (Natasha Cloud of the Phoenix Mercury). Clark is tied for second in the league alongside Mercury guards Diana Taurasi and Kahleah Cooper with six techs.

A player's sixth technical foul does earn them a $600 fine. For Clark, that's a reasonable hit on her $76,535 rookie salary.

Clark scored 18 points on 7/18 shooting to along with nine assists and eight rebounds in Friday night's defeat. Her pass to Kelsey Mitchell in the second quarter led to her 317th dime on the season, good for the single-season WNBA record .

Clark isn't the only player to set a single-season mark this year. Aces forward A'Ja Wilson recently set the all-time points mark, and Clark's rival Angel Reese also broke the single-season rebounding record.

"I think it definitely speaks to the whole entire year and how historic it has been for this league and how great the basketball has been for the league, and we're not even into the playoffs yet," Clark said of the records being set.

"I think that's what's so fun about it, is you're just going to continue to see records be taken down, but also I think really good basketball, and that's why it's been so fun to watch.

"That's why the fans have been showing up. The viewership has been absolutely crushed this year. So I think everybody's just kind of raising their game."

"The competition's just getting better and better, and it's fun as a competitor to show up in this league every night and know you have to bring your best, because whoever's on the other side of the court from you, they're going to bring their best, and that's what makes it fun."
