    Perry defeats Lake in opening week of Federal League play

    PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH- In the opening week of Federal League play for both teams, Perry pulls out a 17-7 win over league foe Uniontown Lake.

    In the opening quarter both teams would utilize their run game to get head way, in a back and forth battle of possessions neither would score ending the quarter 0-0 heading into the second.

    Opening up the quarter Lake would get an interception off the pass of Austin Mattox falling in the hands of senior Braeden Shrock, that drive would prove empty for the Blue Streaks, Perry would get their first score of the game off the legs of senior Kyson Walker exploding for a 35 yard touchdown with 6:46 left in the half going up 7-0 after a good PAT off the foot of Brock Huggins.

    Then the ultimate would happen has Perry couldn't get a first down in three tries they would rely on kicker Brock Huggins to attempt to nail a 50 yard field goal with 1:23 left in the quarter, Huggins would not only score the field goal with tons of room left it would be a school record, the previous was 44 yards and that would end the quarter with the Panthers up 10-0.

    "I don't even know I just kinda zoned out and the pressure didn't get to me at all, Austin got the great snap he put it down I got a fantastic kick that ball was probably good for like sixty yards," Huggins said.

    The second half of play for both teams became a defensive battle as the Keith Wakefield defense would hold Ohio Bobcats commit Charlie Christopher to short gains and out of the end zone, additionally coming up with multiple Int's during the course of play down the stretch of the game.

    Lake would finally get on the board with 7:03 left in the game off a short run from sophomore Ty DeGeorge to end the shutout trailing 7-10, that would be the only score for the Streaks.

    The final touchdown of the game would seal the deal as junior Connor Shephard would scamper into the end zone with 1:50 left in the game, Perry would bring home the victory.

    Up next for Perry would be a week five matchup versus Canton Mckinley, as for Lake they will host a Glenoak team looking for its first win of the season.
