SWVA is described in manay ways

If you reside in Southwest Virginia you know this is a unique mountainous region to live in the US and can be dscribed in varying ways. SWVA can be summed up as all Virginia counties on the Appalachian Plateau but it is so much more.

Southwest Virginia is also described as all Virginia counties west of the Eastern Continental Divide, or at its greatest expanse, as far east as Blacksburg and Roanoke.A different geographic categorization of the region refers to the area as all counties within the Tennessee River watershed.

Friends of SWVA reveal the area includes 19 counties, four independent cities, and 53 towns located on the southern and western borders. SWVA is 8,600 square miles which incompases more than one fifth of the State.

This section of the Commonwealth has beautiful mountain ridges and fertile valleys including The Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah National Park and Geoerge Washington and Jefferson Natinal Forrest plus the Appalachian Trail.

There are 11 state parks, and more than a thousand square miles of national and state forests that people come from all over to visit which is why Southwest Virginians can be proud.
