This week, The Hollywood Reporterbroke the news that filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is slated to take over for Watts in directing Tom Holland's next turn as Peter Parker. Cretton is a tried-and-tested MCU veteran, having previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). It's not a complete changeup behind the scenes, however; returning writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who have been responsible for the three solo Tom Holland Spider-Man outings, will be working with the new director.

While not wholly surprising, this lends further credence to the idea that Tom Holland will maybe play the saddest iteration of Spider-Man yet. Imagine Doctor Strange being your only friend.
