The New York Giants were nervous and uncertain and wobbly. Oh, and they aren't very good.

The Philadelphia Eagles, imperfect at end of last year no doubt, are very good. And when it came to decisiveness in general manager Howie Roseman signing All-Pro running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal?

The Eagles were not nervous or uncertain or wobbly. And so far, they are not wrong.

While the Giants openly stated that paying Saquon alongside Daniel Jones was a bad financial fit, the Eagles did exactly that with purpose, buying Saquon to pair alongside quarterback Jalen Hurts.

And for openers? Barkley made a stunning and immediate impact in his first game in an Eagles uniform by scoring three touchdowns while pumping out 132 yards from scrimmage in a 34-29 win over the Green Bay Packers.

No wonder Barkley is a jewel on a new list honoring value players - yes, "value,'' even as the former No. 2 overall pick’s three-year contract is worth a whopping $37.75 million.

Former NFL agent and current CBS Sports analyst Joel Corry includes Barkley on his just-announced ‘Best Team Money Can Buy.’

“Being cost-effective and having dual-threat capabilities are a requirement for the primary running back,” Corry wrote in explaining his selection of Barkley . “Barkley fits that bill. His 98.8 scrimmage yards per game (combined rushing and receiving yards) ranks fifth since he entered the NFL in 2018.”

Is Barkley truly "cost-effective'' in the long term? There is no way to know that. But do the Eagles have themselves a "primary running back'' that can be a centerpiece of a championship that if achieved won't have anybody concerned about cap concerns and the like? So far, so good.
