The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued its earliest winter weather advisory in 20 years for the high Sierra as a powerful storm system approaches.

The storm, expected to arrive late Sunday night and continue into Monday morning, will bring several inches of snow to the Sierra, including large parts of Yosemite National Park.

Snow levels will begin at around 10,000 feet on Sunday evening, dropping to 7,000 feet by Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, up to 3 inches of snow is forecasted for elevations above 8,000 feet, while areas between 6,500 and 7,500 feet may receive 1 to 2 inches. Lower elevations, including mountain passes like Tioga and Sonora, could see a dusting of snow. Some resorts in the Tahoe area might also experience light snowfall.
