    Virginia's forgotten ghost towns

Bigler's Mill was a small town near Williamsburg in York County, Virginia, that is now extinct. Considered one of the lost towns of the Commonwealth, it was founded in 1852 by James Bigler, who built a sawmill, a grist mill, and added a colony of people.

The saw mill was destroyed during the Civil War, but Bigler was compensated. During WWI, the US Navy took over parts of York County, including the entire community of Bigler's Mill and neighboring Magruder, Virginia.

The residents were forced to relocate, and the land was redeveloped. Nearby Camp Peary was taken over by the Government and is now a restricted area for CIA training. Now Bigler's Mill is part of the Forgotten South.
