Fans Outraged After Dreadful Performance by Top College Football Team

The No. 1 college football team in the nation is reeling after a wire-to-wire scare in the SEC opener. A trip to Kentucky for the Georgia Bulldogs was much more than Kirby Smart and company had hoped for.

Led by Heisman Trophy contender Carson Beck, UGA entered its first road test of the season as a 22-point favorite over the Wildcats. who are led by former Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff.

A dismal offensive performance in the first half led to a 6-3 lead by Kentucky at the break. Georgia had just 65 yards of offense in the first half, the least in the Kirby Smart era.

As usual with the Bulldogs, the second half was a different story. Kentucky was outscored 10-6 in the final 30 minutes. UGA put up 197 yards of offense and held the Wildcats to two field goals. UGA running back Branson Robinson scored the only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, ultimately the game-winning score.

Beck had a tough day, completing 15-of-24 passes for just 160 yards with zero touchdowns and interceptions. Georgia's defense, however, held up nicely by keeping the UK offense out of the endzone. UGA has not allowed a touchdown since the 2023 SEC Championship Game.

Missed tackles, poor execution, missed blocks – Georgia fans had plenty of issues to call out, and they certainly didn't shy away from overreactions on social media.

"Don't ever play that bad again," one fan tweeted.

Some consider the 1-point road win as a telling sign of what could come.

"We're going 7-5," another fan wrote.

Others are looking ahead to a road matchup against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide (Sept. 28).

"Bama going to roll us," a fan tweeted.

There are some, however, with a positive outlook with a long season ahead.

"A win is a win," a fan tweeted. "Rank Texas No. 1. Two weeks of Kirby on the mic at practice before Bama. Let’s ride."

The Bulldogs are off next week until a trip to Tuscaloosa to face Kalen DeBoer and the new-look Tide. There's plenty to work on for Smart's Bulldogs in the meantime, but Georgia can rest with a 3-0 start, its 42nd-straight regular-season win.

After Kentucky laid an egg at South Carolina last week this performance may have saved Stoops job. At least for a couple of weeks.
