Postgame Handshake Between Deion Sanders, Jay Norvell Is Turning Heads After Colorado vs. Colorado State

One of the worst-kept secrets in college football is that Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders and Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell aren't the closest of friends.

Norvell threw shade at Sanders last season after he wore sunglasses when speaking to the media. This led to Sanders accusing Norvell of insulting how his mother raised him. The pregame beef likely helped the game attract the nearly nine million viewers who tuned in to watch the Buffs win in double overtime.

On Saturday, it was Sanders' squad getting the win again, and this time, overtime wasn't required.

Following Colorado's 28-9 victory over the Rams in Fort Collins, Sanders and Norvell conducted what can only be described as a drive-by handshake.

Clearly, neither coach wanted to say much to the other, which is likely for the best. In addition to Norvell's comments directed at Sanders, his wife, Kim Norvell, fired off a now-deleted tweet that called Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders out for “acting like a B” following last season's game.

A comment that the Colorado head coach declined to really dive into earlier this week.

“I had the honor and the pleasure at the Big 12 meetings to meet his wife, she’s delightful,” Sanders said when asked about the comments about Shedeur. “I’m not looking for an apology, I just met her. She was delightful… I don’t judge people based off what they say when they’re emotional. I can’t do that, man. My heart ain’t built like that. When you show me who you are, I gotta believe you.”

While this may have emerged as one of college football's most underrated rivalries, the two teams won't play again for another five years. By then, there's a real possibility that neither Sanders nor Norvell are the coach of their respective program for various reasons.

For Colorado (2-1), they return home next week to take on the Baylor Bears(2-1). The Rams (1-2) will welcome UTEP (0-3) to town.
