Legendary Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd, now an offensive analyst/assistant quarterbacks coach for the Tigers, hosted an in-season episode of Clemson Football’s official podcast, 2 Right Turns , with the latest episode featuring Bryant Wesco Jr. and TJ Moore.

Boyd asked various questions to the talented true freshmen receiver duo, and during the podcast episode, Moore flipped it around and posed a question to Boyd:

“What was your favorite gameday memory?”

Boyd reflected on two of those that stand out to him, starting with Clemson’s 38-35 win over Georgia to begin the 2013 season on Aug. 31 of that year.

In a back-and-forth affair at Death Valley, the No. 8 Tigers built a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter on Stanton Seckinger‘s 9-yard touchdown catch from Boyd and hung on to beat the fifth-ranked Bulldogs in the first season-opening meeting of top-10 teams in school history.

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd (10) looks to pass against Georgia during the third quarter Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium.

Boyd earned several national and ACC Player of the Week honors after going 18-of-30 passing for 270 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, while also rushing for 42 yards and two touchdowns to help Clemson snap a five-game losing streak to Georgia.

“There was a couple,” Boyd said of his favorite gameday memories. “Easy No. 1 was Georgia, 2013 to start the season off. It was such a billed game – I think it was 8 versus 5. Georgia was 5, we were 8. And I had known (former UGA QB) Aaron Murray since high school, so it was awesome to get a chance to play against him. I hosted (former UGA RB) Todd Gurley when he came up on a visit here. So, I knew some of those guys on that side of it. And I was born in Georgia, so I actually grew up a Dawg fan, but they never offered me, man, so I carried that chip.”

The other favorite memory that Boyd recalled is Clemson’s 31-28 victory over Wake Forest on Nov. 12, 2011, when the ninth-ranked Tigers overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half at Death Valley to clinch the ACC’s Atlantic Division title on a 43-yard field goal from Chandler Catanzaro as time expired.

In that win over the Demon Deacons, Boyd was 27-of-43 passing for 343 yards and two touchdowns, to go with 27 yards on 11 carries.

“And then my sophomore year, we played Wake Forest to clinch the division,” Boyd said. “And somehow we were fighting for our lives in that game, man. … ‘Cat-Man’ kicked the field goal, we win the game. It was such an awesome moment.”

A record-setting quarterback for the Tigers from 2010-13, Boyd set school career marks in nearly every passing category, including completions (901), passing yards (11,904) and passing touchdowns (107) as well as in touchdown responsibility (133). The three-time All-ACC pick and 2012 AFCA first-team All-American won ACC Player of the Year in 2012, and he finished his career as a finalist for the Unitas and Manning Awards as one of Clemson’s team captains in 2013.

In April, it was announced Boyd will be a member of the 2024 Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame Class.
