F1 racers wowed fans in downtown Minneapolis during Red Bull's Showrun

The smell of burnt rubber might linger in downtown Minneapolis after 50,000 racing fans shut down the area around Commons Park on Saturday for Red Bull's Showrun. Racers sped down 4th Street, led by the 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard.

Marking the first F1 exhibition in Minneapolis, the two-hour show Showrun was jam-packed with enthusiastic crowds, lightning-quick cars, and even more incredible stunts.

“The Red Bull Showrun here in Minneapolis was incredible, the crowd was amazing,” said Coulthard. “It was a great show with all the different athletes here putting on excellent demonstrations. This event gives insight to the sound and speed of a Grand Prix car and the crowd reaction to it was certainly the highlight of my day."

Coulthard showed why he is considered one of racing's finest as he tore through the city streets in his RB7 F1 car, executing 360s and powerful burnouts to the screams of fans. The Scottish powerhouse told Bring Me The News that he hadn't been able to explore Minneapolis yet but that he is a fan of downtown architecture.

"I was at the [Minneapolis Sculpture Garden] during our fire-up yesterday, and it was really impressive," Coulthard told Bring Me The News . "The reception from the crowd has been incredible. There's a lot of passion here, a lot of energy."

Minnesota native Andrew Carlson was among the performers, doing donuts with his Pro4 Truck around the track, bringing up enough smoke to fog the whole street.

"Today was epic. It was one of the best days and I’m super pumped to be down here in front of the hometown crowd," Carlson said. "Doing donuts and pumping up the crowd. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend a Saturday in Minneapolis!”

The most impressive stunt came when Levi LaVallee, Minnesota native and the recent inductee into the Snowmobile Hall of Fame, closed out the show by jumping his snowmobile over the RB7 F1 car as Coulthard was doing donuts at the intersection of Portland Ave. and 4th St.

“What an amazing opportunity to do this in downtown Minneapolis,” said LaVallee. “Being even remotely close to an F1 car is a dream, so being able to jump over it? That’s out of this world! When Red Bull told me they were bringing a Showrun to Minneapolis, I knew I had to be a part of it. What’s more Minnesotan than snowmobiles and me?"

Scott Speed lived up to his name, performing multiple burnouts in his Subaru WRX STI Rallycar, leaving burning rubber on the street (and some in our eyes). Other racers who performed included Aaron Colton on his Triumph Street Triple 765 demo bike and Mike Rockenfeller in his Ford Mustang GT3.

"I love it. I went on a run this morning, and there were so many people outside being active," Speed said. Unsurprisingly, he said no when asked if driving his car on city streets was a difficult adjustment. "The challenge we usually face is the width of the track, but during these show runs, the roads are wide enough."
