    Annual Scarecrow Contest registration is underway

    CANBY: The annual Canby Scarecrow Contest will be taking entries through Sept. 29. To register, go to hotroddreamworks.com or email to hotroddreamworks@canby.com.

    After registration, entrants will get an email explaining where to set up their scarecrow in downtown Canby. The event is free to participate in and is open to businesses, organizations and clubs. Scarecrows must be set up between Oct. 6-11 and voting begins Oct. 14.

    Hunter sight-in set for Canby Rod and Gun Club

    CANBY: The Pioneer chapter of the Oregon Hunters Association will hold its second sight-in day workshop on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at Canby Rod and Gun Club.

    OHA’s sight-in days offers hunters a chance to prepare their rifles ahead of the coming deer season. Each hunter is assigned an experienced club member and all the needed tools to make sure their firearm is properly sighted. There is a service fee of $5 per firearm.

    Interested hunters will have full access to clubhouse facilities, covered benches, as well as hot lunch and beverages available for purchase.

    Canby preschool ready to accept student enrollment

    CANBY: Zoar Lutheran Preschool is currently enrolling students for its preschool programs. Led by the new creative team of teachers Kim Platt and Natalie Cobb, a slew of fun and interesting activities are planned for this year.

    The school is currently enrolling for its 3-year-old class (Tuesday and Thursdays, 9 to 11:30 a.m.), and 4-year-old class (Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon). The preschool asks that potential students be fully potty trained and 3 years old by Sept. 1.

    Youth and adults can learn square dance basics in Aurora

    AURORA: The Chaps & Petticoats Square Dance Club will hold a free event for beginning square dance on Sept. 22. The events are open to youth and adults and run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Maplewood Grange (25480 S. Hwy. 99E in Aurora).

    Square dancing is an activity families can do together as well as couples and individuals. The event will teach square dance steps building to dancing to a music song.

    Poetry and more at open mic event set for Woodburn

    WOODBURN: The Canby Public Library will hold a Poetry & More night at the Bungalow Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

    This is an open mic event, so participants can bring their poetry, music, and stories to share. The Bungalow Theatre is located at 455 N. Front St., in Woodburn.

    LEGO Master will pay a visit to Molalla Library

    MOLALLA: Lego Master Kelly Bartlett will pay a visit to the Molalla Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m.

    She will talk about her experiences on a reality show like LEGO Masters, offering thoughts on casting to filming the show, as well as what she learned and life after the show.

    ‘Who’s on Third’ concert series about to restart

    WOODBURN: The season opening concert of the “Who’s on Third” concert series will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, from 2-3 p.m. at Woodburn United Methodist Church, 700 N. Cascade Drive.

    The Karen Carpenter Tribue Band will perform, taking the audience down memory lane with some of The Carpenters most beloved hits through vocalist Rebecca Hardiman and her band.

    All “Who’s on Third” concerts are supported by a freewill offering to cover expenses and occur on the third Thursday of each month through May.

    Open house, meeting focus on Adams Cemetery future

    MOLALLA: There will be a public meeting and open house regarding the Adams Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Prairie House Inn, 524 E. Main St., Molalla.

    The meeting will be a chance for those involved, or who want to be involved, with the cemetery to talk about what they do and to recruit volunteers.

    Music memorabilia show ready for 41st edition in Canby

    CANBY: The 41st Annual Record Bonanza will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at Ackerman School (350 SE 13th St.) in Canby. The show runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, there is free parking, and 8-foot tables are $60 each.

    The event features all types of music memorabilia from many genres and eras.

    Teen event slated for next 3 months at Woodburn Library

    WOODBURN: The Woodburn Public Library will hold a teen event on Monday, Sept. 23, at the library. There will be board games and pizza beginning at 5:30 p.m.

    The teen event will be held again on Oct. 14 with a murder mystery party, then again on Saturday, Nov. 16 at noon with a video game tournament.

    Explore the books of Mexico, Guatemala during workshops

    WOODBURN: The series Ancient Books of Mexico and Guatemala will be held at the Woodburn Public Library is a multi-week workshop led by professional storyteller Valentina Ortiz.

    The dates will be Sept. 24, and Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. at the library.

    Learn to read an ancient Mexican book, listen to the story of Aztec migration and create your own imaginary story.

    Civil War re-enactment set for Powerland in Brooks

    BROOKS: The Northwest Civil War Council Re-enactment will be Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Powerland Heritage Park, 3995 Brooklake Road in Brooks.

    Workshop will focus on the nuances of garlic

    CANBY: The Canby Public Library will hold a Guide to Garlic Planting event with Kay Everts and Arthur Moore on Saturday, Sept. 28 in the Willamette Room.

    Learn when to plant, grow and harvest garlic, as well as the difference between hard neck, soft neck and different varieties of garlic and more.

    Molalla High alumni luncheon event coming in October

    MOLALLA: All Molalla High School alumni are invited to attend the 109th Annual Alumni Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Molalla High School Commons, 357 Frances St.

    D&D sessions restarting at Molalla Public Library

    MOLALLA: Dungeons and Dragons has returned to the Molalla Public Library. D&D sessions are open to teens and run the first Saturday of each month from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library. No experience in the game is necessary to get involved.

    Tabletop gaming fun is now going on at the library

    CANBY: The Canby Public Library is holding a tabletop gaming event the second and fourth Saturday of each month running from noon to 4 p.m.

    Gaming is in the Teen Room and is for ages 13-18 to explore some new tabletop game options.

    MOLALLA: The Molalla Farmers Market meets every Thursday through the end of September from 3 to 7 p.m. at 180 Industrial Way in Molalla.

    The weekly market will feature local produce, crafts, food, and more.

    Canby’s Farmers Market is up and running Saturdays

    CANBY: The Canby Farmers Market will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Canby on N. Holly Street between NW 2nd and 4th avenues.

    The market will run into October and produce from local farmers, hand crafters, food artisans and plenty of other vendors.

    D&D campaign looking for players at Canby Library

    CANBY: A Dungeons and Dragons campaign for teens ages 13-18 will be the first and third Saturday at the Canby Public Library.

    The campaigns will be from noon to 4 p.m., in the Teen room of the Canby Public Library.

    Portland Timbers supporters group meets in Canby

    CANBY: The local Portland Timbers support group, Timbers Army Clackamas County Frogmen, will meet at the F.O.B. Taproom in Canby cheer on the MLS team for every game this season, except those on Wednesday nights.

    The game will be shown on a large pull-down screen and the fun will include snacks and patches and stickers for sale. Beverages are available on site, and food can be purchased outside of the taproom and brought in during the game. All area Timbers fans are encouraged to stop by.

    F.O.B. Taproom is located at 1109 SW 1st Ave., in Canby.

    Woodburn Meals on Wheels program seeks volunteers

    WOODBURN: The Northwest Senior and Disability Services is accepting volunteers for its Woodburn-based Meals on Wheels program.

    Volunteers serve nutritious food to the community’s older citizens. It’s an opportunity to help the community, connect with others and be a friendly, familiar face.
