With a career dating back to the 1950s, Bob Dylan produced more than a few hit songs as he recorded classics like “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall.” Spending over six decades in the spotlight, the singer continues to tour the country, entertaining fans. Recently, the hitmaker joined the Outlaw Music Festival Tour, which featured other stars like John Mellencamp and even Willie Nelson. Nelson is headlining the tour. During a recent concert, Dylan decided to perform his iconic song “All Along the Watchtower.” Although not performing the song in years, Dylan played the hit shortly after Mellencamp covered the same song.

Joining the tour back in July, Mellencamp hit the stage before Dylan during the concert. Only performing 12 songs during his set, the singer decided to cover the hit song by Dylan. The moment happened around 6:30 p.m.. While fans loved the cover and enjoyed Mellencamp’s performance, Dylan decided to start his set with the same song. And he went on around 8:00 p.m. With the song fresh in people’s minds, fans received a special treat given Dylan hadn’t performed the song in years.

John Mellencamp Not The Only One To Cover Hit Song From Bob Dylan

While both performances made their way online, fans couldn’t get enough of Dylan as they praised the legendary singer. Comments included, “What a song, what a band with Bob Dylan, for sure. He got the right spirit and he embodies his messages in every single moment. Concert by concert and important in these difficult times.” Another person shared, “One of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. Love it.” And according to one person who attended the concert, “I was at this show. I have never felt as much excitement at a concert in my life, as I felt when he started this song.”

Back in 1967, Dylan released his studio album titled John Wesley Harding. The album featured numerous songs, but “All Along the Watchtower” captured the love of fans. And it wasn’t only fans as Jimi Hendrix recorded the song and watched as it landed in the Top 20. Rolling Stone even placed the song on their list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

While being a part of history for decades, it appears Dylan had a little fun with Mellencamp and the fans when he decided to perform the classic song.

The most impressive rendition of this classic song can be heard off the Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush Tales Of The Unexpected album.
