We have reached pity level for Florida State

The worst thing I can do is pity you as a fan base. It doesn’t happen often and it takes remarkable circumstances for it to occur. But Florida State fans, welcome to being pitied.

After Jimbo Fisher left this team high and dry a few years after he led them to national title heights, things began to go wrong. Willie Taggart was hired and he was way over his head. Mike Norvell was brought in but any promise was doused quickly by a 3-6 COVID year and a 5-7 season in 2021. A once proud program was now dealing with losing seasons and opposing fan bases treating them like a joke. Then something happened.

In a crucial year for Norvell, he went 10-3 in 2022 and followed that with the amazing 13-0 run in 2023. Noles fans were back on top, cocky and arrogant as always. And then something — karma, misfortune, tv money — put it all to a stop.

FSU was denied the four team playoff as we know. Their team gave up and the opt outs led to an embarrassing 63-3 loss in the Orange Bowl. The administration at FSU decided it was the ACC’s fault and began a lawsuit to get out of the Grant of Rights. The Grant of Rights they signed twice. The whining from the fan base became insufferable from the playoff snub to claiming the 60 point loss didn’t count because of opt outs and injuries to sheer confidence they would win the lawsuit eventually be free of the ACC. And here we are now.

The playoff snub sucked. It was wrong. They were robbed. However, the powers that be didn’t want to see a FSU team with a horrible QB situation ruin their playoff and kill their tv revenue. They did what was best for the dollar and not for football. But it still sucked.

The loss to Georgia was an embarrassment. Norvell tried his best to keep his team focused after the snub but most just quit and gave up. The opt outs had the balls to sit on the sidelines and watch the rest of the team get drilled. And the rest of the team gave a half assed effort.

The lawsuit is ongoing but they won’t win. The GOR is, by all accounts, air tight and it doesn’t help that FSU signed it twice. And the thing that can sometimes suck about trying to break up with someone? You find out no one really wants you as the SEC and Big Ten have no current interest in the once mighty Seminoles. They are “bad partners” or something.

FSU is off to a 0-3 start. The roster is depleted from losses to the NFL and the team that made that run last year was very portal reliant. What’s left is a poor roster and a seemingly apathetic culture. FSU fans have gone from top of the world to the laughing stock of college football — again. There is no solution honestly barring another miracle portal class this off season. Their head coach is locked in forever and getting Jimbo Texas A&M money. They could easily go back to those losing seasons. It helps a little that the Florida Gators suck but having Miami suddenly appear to be headed on a 2023 FSU run hurts.

So I’ve gone from rolling my eyes at the cocky nature of the FSU fan base, something I experienced for many years when Bobby Bowden was in charge and shortly during the good part of the Fisher regime, to pure annoyance at their whining all off-season to pity. From such highs a mere 10 months ago to the lowest of lows it’s sad.

    It’s pitiful to watch.
