Phenix City Central continues to hold the top spot in the Alabama high school football rankings, but a number of teams are jockeying for position behind them. Below are the rest of the top 25 programs in Alabama through four weeks of the season.

1. Phenix City Central
Previous: No. 1
The defending state champion Red Devils haven’t lost a beat. They were dominant from start to finish as they dropped the hammer on Pinson in Week 1, followed up by a 30-12 victory over St. Louis (Mo.) Lutheran North and a 69-15 splattering of Smiths Station. Their first major test of the season came this weekend with a trip to Dothan, a game they snuck out of with a close 42-35 win. An even more challenging foe awaits this weekend in home showdown against No. 8 Enterprise.

The Tigers opened the season at home against North Miami Beach (Fla.), dominating the visitors 49-0. They’ll followed that by crushing Birmingham Vestavia Hills 52-17 and then beating top-15 opponent Opeliak to move to 3-0. All of that led up to a huge game with No. 7 Enterprise on Friday night, with Auburn taking home a dominant 53-22 on the road.

After losing their season opener against Loganville (Ga.) Grayson, the 2023 7A state runners-up have reeled off three consecutive wins. First on the road against Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy, then blitzing Tuscaloosa 47-7 before easily handling Oak Mountain 42-7 over the weekend.

The reigning 6A state champions began the defense of their title with a commanding 28-7 victory over Heuytown in Week 1. They followed that with a 62-7 romp over Birmingham Ramsey in Week 2 and a 45-0 obliteration of Pell City. The Cougars continued their dominant ways against Shades Valley (42-0) and will now head to a bye week before a top-5 matchup at No. 3 Thompson to close the month.

The Spartans survived a close battle with Jackson (Ala.) in Week 1, escaping with a 35-27 victory. Week 2 saw them bulldoze Eight Mile (Ala.) Blount 59-6, while they followed that up with a 31-7 win over Gulf Shores. Then-No. 8 Spanish Fort came to Saraland on Friday night, one which the home team dominated 42-17.
Previous: No. 9 (+3)
The Bucs have been on an early-season rollercoaster, beating Western to open the season, followed by a 39-37 loss to Spain Park the next week. They came back with a vengeance on Friday night by dominating a previously top-10 Hillcrest team 35-6. In one of their biggest games of the year in the state, they won a defensive battle 8-7 over No. 4 Hewitt-Trussville and now have cemented themselves as a legitimate state title contender.

Hewitt-Trussville dominated its first two games of the season, winning by a combined score of 92-20. In Week 3, they got a scare from Vestavia Hills but ultimately snuck out of town with an 18-14 win. A top-10 tilt at home against Hoover awaited on Friday, but the Bucs came away with a the victory in a game where the teams combined for just 15 total points.

Enterprise made easy work Andalusia in Week 1 with a 35-7 win and handled Pike Road 24-6, then dropped No. 11 Dothan 28-21. No. 3 Auburn rolled into town this weekend for a major top-10 tilt, but the Wildcats were completely overwhelmed in a 53-22 rout. It only gets tougher this week with a road battle at No. 1 Central.
9. Birmingham Parker
Previous: No. 11 (+2)
The Thundering Herd boast a loaded roster that includes Five-Star Plus+ cornerback Na’eem Offord , 2026 top-100 prospect Vodney Cleveland , Auburn four-star defensive line commit Jourdin Crawford and Miami safety pledge Timothy Merritt . They’ve been nothing short of smothering in the early part of the season, taking the first three games by a combined score of 106-35. Week 4 was much the same with a 46-0 splattering of Mortimer Jordan. Things get real in a hurry this week though, as they’ll take on the No. 2 team in Georgia, Carrollton, and five-star quarterback Julian Lewis .

Another significant riser early in the season has been Spain Park, which opened the season with a 38-7 throttling of Sparkman before beating Hoover in a 39-37 thriller two weeks ago. The Jaguars, led by quarterback and 2026 Clemson commit Brock Bradley , look to have one of the state’s most dynamic offenses. After being idle over the weekend, they’ll travel to Helena on Friday night.
