The Least Used Amtrak Station In Oklahoma As Of 2023

NORMAN, OK - Amtrak saw 76,121 passengers travel through Oklahoma in fiscal year 2023, with two daily trains operating as part of the state-supported Heartland Flyer route.

According to Amtrak, this service connects Oklahoma City to Fort Worth, Texas, providing vital rail transportation between the two cities and several smaller communities along the route.

Oklahoma City’s station was the busiest in the state, with 53,529 riders, reflecting the city’s role as a central hub for Amtrak in the region.

Other stations, such as Norman and Ardmore, also saw significant usage with 12,422 and 5,831 riders, respectively, according to Amtrak.

According to Amtrak, however, Purcell (PUR) was the least used station in Oklahoma, serving just 1,436 passengers over the course of the year. Despite its smaller ridership, Purcell remains an important stop for those traveling along the Heartland Flyer route.

Amtrak continues to face challenges with on-time performance in Oklahoma due to its reliance on host railroads, which often prioritize freight trains over passenger services.

Nonetheless, Amtrak’s presence in the state remains a key transportation link for residents and visitors alike.
