Russell Westbrook, a City of Angels native, had one of his career's worst phases in his two-and-a-half seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers (2021-2023). Lakers fans constantly criticized and trolled Westbrook, making him unhappy and diminishing his level of play.

However, things changed for the better when Westbrook landed on the Clippers just before the 2022-23 trade deadline.

When Russ's joining the Clippers was announced, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith predicted a higher ceiling for Ty Lue and crew.

From the beginning of Westbrook's stint with the Lakers, Smith suggested the fit was not great. The NY native had no doubts about the nine-time All-Star's abilities and hustle mentality but felt that LeBron James and Co. needed a guard with sniper-like skills.

Hence, when Brodie signed with the Clippers, Stephen A. elevated his expectations for the team, saying, "I wouldn't be surprised to see the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA Finals."

Embarking on a new chapter, the former OKC Thunder MVP would remind everyone of his dynamic abilities, making an impact on the Ballmer franchise from the get-go.

    Stephen A. was wrong

While there was no Finals appearance in the Clippers' cards, Westbrook saved the season as the team's superstar duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George struggled with injuries.

In the 2023 playoffs, Russ stepped up big time after Kawhi was ruled out with an injury. Playing against the Suns Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Chris Paul, the former OKC Thunder MVP gave it his all.

Tied at 1-1 against the Suns in the first round, Westbrook would post a 30-point double-double but ended up losing the contest.

Picking up from Game 3, Russ put up 37 points in Game 4. It wasn't enough to defeat the offensive powerhouse of the Suns.

Ultimately, the Clippers were ousted in five games, but there was a newly gained respect for Westbrook.
