Steve Spurrier has raised significant concerns regarding the future of Michigan's football program in light of Jim Harbaugh's departure for the NFL. Spurrier expressed skepticism about the capabilities of Sherrone Moore, who has stepped into the role of head coach.

"That coach (Moore), he doesn't have much of a chance with what (Jim) Harbaugh left him," Spurrier said to Gainesville (Fla.) Sun columnist Pat Dooley on “Another Dooley Noted Podcast back” in June.

"Thirteen from one team drafted, and something like eight on defense, nine on offense, or something like that. So it'll take them a while to get back to a team like they had last year. That's for sure."

The effects of this talent drain were palpable in Michigan's recent performances. Moore's squad struggled notably, particularly evidenced in their 31-12 loss to Texas, where quarterback Davis Warren's performance faltered, leading to his benching after throwing three interceptions. Michigan's ongoing challenges on the field have been exacerbated by the daunting prospects of upcoming games, including matchups against Minnesota and Washington, which could provide potential win opportunities amidst a rocky start to the season.

However, their rivalry against Ohio State appears particularly grim, especially after Oregon demonstrated formidable strength by defeating Oregon State 49-14. Spurrier indicated that the road ahead for Michigan is fraught with hurdles, as traditional rivals like Michigan State and Indiana are showing signs of unexpected improvement, complicating their scheduled matches even further.

With Harbaugh's departure leaving a hollow in the team's core, Michigan must now navigate their way through a fiercely competitive Big Ten landscape, raising questions about their ability to maintain a semblance of success. The pressure is on Moore to rally the squad amidst these turbulent times.
