Dan Campbell shows no fear in fake punt attempt vs. Bucs

The Detroit Lions offense has struggled early against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense on Sunday.

Head coach Dan Campbell — known for his aggressive play-calling, particularly on fourth down — decided to change things up and attempt to get the Lions out of a funk in the second quarter.

Detroit was lined up to punt from their own 20-yard line on 4th and 12 when punter Jack Fox took the snap and threw a vertical over the middle to running back Sione Vaki, who caught it for 17 yards and converted the first down.

The drive ended up stalling out unfortunately but it was yet another showing of the no-fear approach Campbell brings with the Lions.

Fox made the completion while standing inside the Lions' 10-yard line.

For Vaki, it's his first reception of his young career as Detroit selected the running back in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Talk about a memorable first catch for the rookie.

According to the team, Fox has now completed 4-for-5 passes for 61 yards, the second-most passing yards by a punter in franchise history.
