Golden Retriever & Corgi Growing Up As Best Friends Are the Ultimate Dynamic Duo

When many pet parents imagine who the perfect playmate for their dog would be, they're probably imagining a dog who is similar to them, both in energy levels and in size. After all, if your dog is very physical when they play, you wouldn't want to risk them hurting a smaller dog — or getting hurt by a larger one. Besides, dogs who are similar breeds, sizes, and ages are more likely to have things in common, right? Then, at least, you can get them started out on the right foot.

While some people might find that to be true, though, it's also true that dogs who seem to have nothing in common can sometimes end up being the best of friends. And in the case of the adorable Golden Retriever and Corgi in this TikTok video below, it certainly worked out that way!

In this video that @maui_thegoldenpup shared on Monday, September 9, we get to watch a Golden Retriever named Maui and a Corgi named Ruby grow up together, from the time that Maui joined the family as a puppy.

Of course, an adult Golden and an adult Corgi are totally different sizes — Goldens can get quite big, after all — but as puppies, they were very well matched to play and wrestle together. And though their family suspected that they might not be able to play together quite like they did when Maui grew up, fortunately, that couldn't be further from what actually ended up happening.

In these clips that were taken over the years, we can see these two dogs growing up together and staying best friends the entire time, even as Maui far surpassed Ruby in size!

They still run around together, celebrate birthdays together, and have remained inseparable through it all. Now that's what true love looks like!

Maui and Ruby's Friendship

These dogs' lives are well documented on TikTok, and though they love to play together, they are very different dogs — and not just in the way they look.

In this video that points out all of those differences , it's pretty clear to see just how different their personalities are. For example, Maui loves to play fetch and actually brings the ball back, but while Ruby is willing to go get the ball, she's keeping it once she does.

And even though Maui has longer legs, Ruby is far more coordinated (and much better at climbing). Go figure!

Another video shared even more differences between them. Maui's a social butterfly, by Ruby is an introvert, and Maui dreams happy dreams, but Ruby likes to hide when she's sleeping (and judges others).

As long as they get along, that's all that matters, right?
