Christie Sides Facing Backlash for Not Defending Caitlin Clark in Wings-Fever Game

Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides has drawn the ire of her team’s fan base for the second straight game.

Sides has been getting roasted on social media a lot lately for not standing up for her players after they’ve taken some hard hits or when there’s been several questionable calls by officials.

Frustrations seemed to boil over on Sunday after star rookie Caitlin Clark was assessed a foul against the Dallas Wings that riled Fever fans up. As Clark was driving the basket, forward Natasha Howard pushed off her as she moved into the paint.

Clark got off a layup attempt that didn’t go in, and as she fell to the court, Howard fell on top of her. Sides didn’t defend Clark from what many perceived to be a bogus foul call, and Aliyah Boston had to restrain her teammate and keep her from getting a technical that would trigger a one-game suspension.

Sides’ silence prompted a thorough roasting on social media.

“ @ChristieSides When the f--- are you goin to stand up for your players!!??? You run around the sidelines jumping but yet can’t stand up to the refs and show some fire in your a-- helping your team. Your dumba-- just stands there while your star player almost gets suspended,” one fan quipped .

“Oh look! Christie Sides is NOT fighting for her player, THE player she should for sure be fighting for, Caitlin Clark, who has played frustrated with the way the officials stink. Who would've thunk Sides would do it again right after she did it last game? ALL OF US,” exclaimed another fan .

“Christie Sides is pissing me off. Advocate for your players!” a third fan remarked .

“This is Christie Sides. We already know she won't speak up,” one user stated .
