Placerville Community Shocked by Highway 50 Homicide

Placerville, CA – A homicide investigation is underway after California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a report of a disabled vehicle on September 7 on US-50 eastbound, near Snows Road in Camino.

At around 6:30 AM on September 7, 2024, officers discovered a Chevrolet truck on the highway’s shoulder. Inside the vehicle, they found a woman who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 38-year-old man from Sacramento has been arrested in connection with the alleged homicide and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing, with support from several agencies, including the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's Office, and local fire departments, the CHP said in a statement.
