Ja'Marr Chase is making sure he's well protected amid his contract drama with the Cincinnati Bengals, and NFL fans are loving it.

Chase is reportedly no longer planning to negotiate a long-term deal with the Bengals this season because the star wide receiver believes he was "misled" by the team's constant promise of an extension that never came, according to ESPN.

That doesn't mean Chase is going to hold out and stop playing. However, he did take a step to protect himself and ensure he still has leverage.

"To reinforce his word and strengthen his position, Chase also has taken out a $50 million insurance policy on himself for this season to safeguard against injury and any potential lost earnings," Adam Schefter of ESPN wrote. "As one source said about Chase, with the insurance policy in place, 'He's good.'"

Sure enough, several fans expressed their belief that getting the insurance policy was a smart move by Chase.

"Very smart," former NBA All-Star Isaiah Thomas wrote in the comments of ESPN's Instagram post about Chase's move.

"Fellas are getting smarter, I love it," another fan shared. A supporter added, "Wow dat boy genius."

"All the athletes need to do this when the team refuses to negotiate their contract," a social media user added.

A fifth poster wrote, "This is financial literacy!!!!!"

It remains to be seen what the Bengals will do following Chase's decision. However, unless they take a drastic action that will make the three-time Pro Bowler happy, it seems Chase is ready to see it through and hold onto his desire for a major contract extension.
