The Indiana Fever escaped with a hard-fought 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday, September 15. This turned out to be a historic evening for Caitlin Clark and Co., who have now tied a franchise record for the most points in a single game.

This high-scoring performance came behind a career-high explosion from Clark, who dropped 35 points on 10-of-22 from the floor, along with two rebounds, eight assists, three steals and six triples. The 22-year-old also set the WNBA record for the most points by a rookie in a single season (761 and counting).

All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell also did her part in this one, scoring 30 points on six triples.

Shortly after the win, the Fever announced the team's record-tying performance via X, formerly Twitter.

While the fans are generally happy with the fact that Indiana has gotten back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back losses against the two-time defending champions Las Vegas Aces, more than a few supporters could not help but complain about the Fever's defensive effort on the evening.

"Literally no defense. A combined 219 points in 40 minutes of basketball. That’s crazy. CC with an insane career high of 35pts," a comment read.

"They gotta stop those wide open 3s they're giving up. And just put a body on the tree, no rebounding duty, just body her away from an easy o," suggested a fan.

"Non existent defence but when you have an offence like the Fever you can always win any game, the bench played well tonight with Dantas Erica and Temi, the starters all scored tonight Lexi Lyss but it was the splash sisters Kelsey and Caitlin with AB that were the difference👏👏" said another.

"Play defense and box out PLEASE, offense alone won't be enough in the playoffs," reacted a supporter.

"Good W. You have a couple of days to prepare more for playoffs. Work on perimeter def, Work on open threes, work on free throws, use the same training post olympic break. Win this Champions!" stated another.

At the end of the day, a win is still a win. However, as some fans have pointed out, this type of performance -- especially on the defensive end -- likely won't be enough to get the Fever far along in the Playoffs.

Indiana has one final game left before the postseason begins. They travel to the Capital to face the Washington Mystics on Thursday, September 19.
